Charles Calbert Smith, Sr., formerly of Meridian peacefully passed away on Saturday July 14, 2018 at his home in New Orleans, LA.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Airforce from 1966 until his discharge in 1970. He was a manager for various car dealerships in Meridian, Laurel, Hattiesburg, Jackson and Monroe, LA during his professional career. He enjoyed golf, hunting, riding and showing horses and spending time with family and friends, preferably outdoors.
Born August 16, 1946 in Dothan, AL to Lindsey and Grace Farmer Smith, who preceded him in death. Charles is survived by his sister Sheila Smith McLaughlin (Doug) and his brother Jerry R. Smith (Sheila), four children Daniel E. Smith of Memphis, TN, David L. Smith of Meridian, MS, Phillip W. Smith (Alicia) and Charles C. “Cal” Smith, Jr. both of New Orleans, LA and one grandchild Cabot J. Smith.
The family welcome friends Thursday July 19, 8:30 am at James F. Webb Funeral Home with services at 10. Internment will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Special Olympics of Mississippi.
